I am slowly but surely having serious problems with social rights activism.
social justice.

I think I want my own theory - I think I am aligning myself with post-modernism more than I realize.
I am so tired of folks saying:
1. Abortion: "if the woman is raped or sexually assaulted or shall die...shouldn't she be allowed to abort?" WHY SHOULD WOMEN BE PHYSICALY COMPROMISED IN ORDER TO HAVE CONTROL OVER THEIR OWN BODIES?? This is my rant, not yours, let me have it, ok? PC or not, I am getting very tired of all these qualifications pro-choice (??) activists feel the need to give. I have a real problem with being allowed to have control over my own body only if I am assaulted. Well good - now rapists and sex offenders, etc. can rest easy - knowing if they impregnate a victim, she can deal with it. yay for the.
HOWS ABOUT WE GIVE WOMEN THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE, AND START ENACTING STRICTER POLICIES AGAINST THE MEN WHO OFFEND? Not to mention only about 3-8% (I believe..) of abortions are performed in response (admittedly) to sexual assault on the woman.
2. Same-Sex Marriage: "No one will get married anyway, and there are so many other issues to deal with, and really I'm tired of hearing about it, and really it's not my issue because the institution of marriage is patriarchal and defunk anyway..."
OKAY ASSHOLE - START RECEDING RIGHTS NOW - HOW ABOUT THE RIGHT TO VOTE, SINCE WOMEN DON'T STATISTICALLY VOTE ALL THAT MUCH ANYWAY? Damnit people - it's not abotu whether or not YOU will use the right - and as far as marriage (for me) it's not about whether or not we give in to an isntitution that sucks anyway - it's about complacently allowing people to institutionally dehumanize us and negate our human experiences and civil rights because of religious rhetoric.
IF WE SIT BACK AND LET THEM BAN SAME-SEX MARRIAGES, THEN WE'VE SAT BACK AND ALLOWED THEM TO TAKE AWAY OUR EXISTANCE - AS THAT WILL SURELY FOLLOW. MARRIAGE IS A CULTURALLY-APPROVED WAY IN WHICH RELATIONSHIPS ARE VALIDATED - AND FOR QUEER FOLKS, IT WOULD BE A CULTURAL RESPONSE TO SEXUALITY IN GENERAL - DO WE REALLY WANT TO GIVE THAT UP?
3. Feminism: "I really dislike most feminists, because they are man hating. I'm a woman, and I'm not a man-hater, and of course I'm not a lesbian. I love men. I want to be equal with them..." WHY BE EQUAL WITH OPPRESSORS? CAN'T WE SHOOT FOR BETTER THAN THAT? FURTHERMORE - MEN "WOMEN-BASH" EVERY SINGLE DAY AND NOONE CARES!! Let's start picketing outside those "male only spaces all over our towns - Moose Lodges, Elk lodges, Masonic Temples, etc. - they are discriminating against women! Do men care? How about the "Man Show" - horribly anti-woman! And what about the fact that we have yet to have more than 6% of politicians to be women - even though women make up over 50% of the population??? Why SHOULDN"T and CAN"T we hate men? I mean really - is there any reason NOT to now a days?
WHY SHOULD I FEEL GUILTY FOR DISLIKING THOSE WHO CONSTANTLY OPPRESS, DISCRIMINATE, AND MARGINALIZE ME??? WHY MUST I PLAY PITTY TO THEM TO GET ANYWHERE AS A LESBIAN AND AS A WOMAN?

4. Jewish Opprsesion: "Jews aren't oppressed, why are you complaining? I think everything's just fine...." Okay, friend - thanks. TOO BAD YOU LIVE IN A CHRISTIAN SOCIETY (ALTHOUGH IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE) AND ALL YOU SEE IS CHRISTMAS, EASTER, ETC. IN MAINSTREAM. Too bad people don't really know what Hanuka, Sabbath, Rosh Hashanna, the "Holy Land' etc are all about - and dont' realize that the "new testiment" is all Christians have - the "old testiment" is really the holy books of teh Jewish people - and that without us you wouldn't ahve a 'messiah" anyway....and that Jews have been in slavery far longer than African Americans were - we're talking a round about figure of 800 yrs before christ (throughout the BC days) and about 4-500 yrs after Christ......and the Russian Polgroms, and Eastern Euro-ethnic cleansing, the Crusades, etc. - BEFORE the Holocaust.
I have more to rant, but this will suffice.
I'm just about fed up with people making me feel like I've got to qualify everything - adn that I've got to feel guilty because my beliefs don't validate mainstream conceptions - or invalidate rather - and I'm tired of being told that this, that, and the other is all there is - THERE ARE MORE ARGUMENTS OUT THER!
And we haven't even GOTTEN to blind shit yet - which I am learnign as I get older and more blind sucks in this society..
LIKE HOW EVERYONE WEARS CONTACT LENSES! It's just "not cool" to wear glasses - unless you think you are bohemian.....
But certainly not for corrective abilities. Goddamnit. I'm annoyed now.
