А вот и не съездила! Бабок нет! Зато погуляла по Пятницкой, сделала покупки на последние гроши. Сейчас буду угрюмо, но с достоинством, варить пельмени.
1. How do you evaluate the performance of FEMEN in general (agenda setting, professionalism)?
I am of a very low opinion of them -- through deliberatly vulgar street actions centered at showing off bare breasts they try to gain some political influence. but when they indiscriminantly protest against sex tourism, absence of water in studetns' dormitories, swine flu and too few Olympic medals of the Ukrainian team one can't but wonder whether they are just somebody's political project to attract more attention to Ukrainian girls -- on the threashold of the European Football Championship.
besides lack of creativity and pedalling the image of prostitutes, I have problems with their self-positioning. in their interviews for local media they emphasize they have nothing to do with feminism because they are too feminine and don't strive to be like men, but on their MySpace page they claim to be the largest _feminist_ movement in Europe. I find it extremely irritating and dishonest.
they are pretty good at attracting attention to themselves and seem to be rather lousy at everything else.
2. Where is FEMEN situated within the feminist discourse in Ukraine?
Some consider them impostorts who approrpiate the name of feminism and everything the women's movement has been doing by now and claim to spearheading the women's movement, and thus do not consider FEMEN as a part of the women's movement but view them as a threat. others think that they are using the language of naked bodies because it is the only language partiarchy teaches young women. so, they are too young and too inexperienced so their lack of consistency is inevitable but they have the potential.
3. Which other movements you might find more relevant and sustainable in Ukrainian feminism?
there are numerous women's organizations but they do not form a uniform women's movement. there are no organizations that call themselves feminist officially. academic feminists seem to be rather influential in their respective areas, though.
