East View announces a new microfilm collection--Jewish Emigration from Ukraine, 1895-1917--chronicling the estimated 12 million descendants of Jewish emigres who departed Ukraine for the United States, Canada, Europe, and Russia during that period.
From start to finish, the diaspora was managed by one organization in Kyiv -- the Society for Adjustment of Jewish Emigration, later called the Jewish Emigration Society. With 296 individual caseloads, historians and genealogists will find this one-of-a-kind collection chronicling the journey of Ukrainian Jewish refugees fascinating, including:
Documents and correspondence on a proposed Jewish agricultural colony in the U.S.
Russian Interior Ministry memoranda on infiltration by secret agents
List of delegates to the 5th Congress of Zionists in 1917
Local Jewish society activities in the towns of Belaia Tserkov' and Homel'
Aid from the Jewish Territorial Union in London
Statistics on parallel immigration by Russians to the U.S.
Personal correspondence.
Declassified from Fond F-444 of the Kiev Oblast' State Archive, the collection contains full images of over 38,000 pages of valuable primary sources on positive silver halide 35mm microfilm. Comprising two parts, it is now available with a 20% pre-publication discount at $4,995. But act quickly -- this offer expires on June 30, 2004.
